Week 10 Term 1

This week has been great. Yesterday I went to leadership day which is where some of the leaders in a few schools all go, and they go to do a bunch of activity's that help to grow their leadership skills. While we were there, a lady that had raced in cycling at the Olympic Games talked to us. She talked about trust and perseverance she said that while they race they are usually about one centimeter from each others wheel, and that if anyone was going to crash it would consequence the whole team. During the day we did lots of activity's that taught us lots of new skills such as respect, perseverance, team work and a range of other skills. We played lots of games during the day, and one of them was handball I was really excited when I found out because when we hosted a Japanese student, and she played it in Japan I think that it was her favorite sport. Today we had tech arts and Maori. In tech arts we made this weird looking bouncy stuff we didn't really learn much, but it was so fun. During Maori we learnt how to say the names of shapes in Maori, and in French we learnt how to ask somebody if they had any pets at their. We also learnt how to reply. Some of the names of the animals were
un mouton = sheep
une vache = cow
un lapin = rabbit
un cochon = pig
poisson rouge = gold fish

For the word gold fish I couldn't remember if it was masculine or feminine. If a word is masculine it has the word un in front of it or if it's feminine it has the word une in front of it. Also in France they say red fish instead of gold fish which would make sense as the fish is really red rather than gold. In class we have been learning about the brain we made a pour point about the left brain right brain, and what their roll is. If you want to find if you are left brained or right brained you just go onto google and search up left brain right brain then click on the link that says Right brained? Left brained take the test! Some of the facts the I have learnt about the brain is that it takes 80 milliseconds for information to travel from your eyes to your brain, and by the time your brain has processed the information the moment would have already passed. I also learnt that if you stretched out all of your axons they could wrap around the Earth's equator more than four times, and when you sleep it can actually make you smarter and healthier. While you sleep, your body paralyses your arms and legs so that when you dream you don't act out any of the thing that you are dreaming about although I am not to sure why people sleep walk. Also when you sleep your brain works really hard recapping the day working out problems that you couldn't work out or that had went to your subconsciousness during the day. The brain is made up of 90% water 12% fat and eight% of something else that I forgot. I also learnt that the human brain is smarter than any animal, and that scientists think that a crow could be one of the smartest birds because of the way that they act for example some of the crows drop nuts on the road so that passing cars could crush the shell for them, and when another crow dies they all gather around calling out and making noises for a while before flying off. We also learnt that a leach has 34 segments that make up it's body (I think), and there is a brain for each segment. We also learnt that a brain does not feel any pain, and some times when doctors do surgery they keep the patience awake so they can tell the doctor how they are feeling and what they are thinking. So this week we have learnt a lot, and I am really excited for next week because we are going to camp for a few days, but then I am also hesitant because we are doing P.C. ( pubertal change) that's when the teacher talks about puberty. Overall I think that I have had a great week, and I am excited for another great one.

Week 8 and 9 Term 1

This week has been great. In tech arts we have moved on from hard materials to science so far all we have done is draw diagrams of things, but I know that it will start to become more fun when we start doing some experiments. Also on Tuesday we had WIMS (Waikato Intermediate middle schools) touch competition. Both of our teams did really well the girls team (my team) got third overall, and the boys team got first overall. During the tournament we lost three games, won two games and drew one game, so we were happy with that, and I think that the boys won all of their games during the day. On Thursday we turned up for extension art, but our teacher didn't turn up.

Week Nine

This week has also been great we had tech arts again, but in science this week we did a bit more exciting things than we did last week. When we first arrived our teacher had been hatching little baby chickens. When we got there we were allowed to hold them they were two days old and really cute.
I also had extension art on Thursday morning, and unlike last week our teacher did turn up. I have almost started my painting on my canvas I think that I will be up to that next week. On Thursday afternoon we had summer games. That is when all of the four houses (Waikato, Puniu, Mangapiko
and Wapia) compete in a series of summer games such as padded tennis, table tennis, touch, minor games nonstop cricket and softball. We haven't found out the results for it yet, but I hope my house (Puniu) wins. Thursday was a really busy day we also had the first disco for 2016 on Thursday night it went for two hours, and it was really fun I had a great time. I am really excited because near the end of week eleven we are going on camp with room seven, and we will arrive back at school on the last day left of the term. Another reason that I am excited is that there is only two weeks lest of term one before it is the holidays.
