Week 3 Term 2

Monday

This week has been fantastic. On Monday after morning tea we went up to the A.L.C to play volley ball as a class. I already know a bit about volleyball, so it was really helpful to practice the moves again, and at the end we even managed to fit in a game. My team did really well as we won our game, and lots of people improved lots, and I think that it really helped everyone as we all seemed to get a lot better as the day went on. I really enjoyed playing it, and I really hope that we get to go and play it more often. It was lucky that we got to play a spot in the morning because in the afternoon we did a math test. I really like math, and I don't think that I did that bad in the test.Although I don't enjoy taking tests I know that they are helpful, and they tell you what you need to work on and what you already know.

Tuesday

On Tuesday we had tech arts, but instead of doing science we have moved on to music. Although it is not my favorite subject for tech arts, it was still alright. We started to learn how to play the guitar, but my favorite instrument by far was the board. We learnt how to play a short balled that wasn't that hard, and we did a bit of book work as well as learning about a different countries music.

Wednesday

On Wednesday band camp was starting up, and our school was hosting it like we do every year. Although I wasn't in it, I know that the students actually in it were a bit nervous to start off with, but in the end they all said that it was fantastic and that they all really enjoyed it. While they were at band camp, we were having a cruisy day we got to choose what we wanted to do out of reading, writing and maths. I really like days like that because if you are really ahead in writing and you weren't that much ahead in maths you could just do maths for the entire block.

Thursday

On Thursday the students that went to band camp held a concert. Our teacher let us choose weather or not we wanted to go no one that was in our class wanted to go, so we watched a movie instead. It was real fun because we also got to choose what work we wanted to do just like on Wednesday. I finished my writing and what we have to do in maths I have also made a really good start on my reading.

Friday

On Friday we had tech arts again we pretty much just did the same thing as last week except this time we got to compose our own Irish Jig that we then played on the keyboard. I had a really fantastic week and I can't wait for another one!

Week 2 Term 2

This week has been great. On Monday we did Lacrosse that is a sport that requires these long sticks with netting heads on the ends of them. The heads of the sticks are used for catching a heavy ball you can also use your stick to pass or scoop up the ball. When we went to learn how to play the sport the man taught us all of these fancy moves that were really hard to do, he also showed us how to steal or scoop up the ball. On Tuesday we had tech arts it was our second to last session in science, and we made bath bombs. We were given our ingredients and we got to choose a colour to make it. Everyone chose different colours then we put the bowls in the middle and layered our bath bombs with different colours my one had three layers green then pink then blue. I really enjoyed making the bath bombs and I can't wait to test it out. Thursday was fantastic I had extension art, and I am painting a landscape. Although I have started painting onto the canvas, we still learnt lots about mixing and blending colours I mixed a colours

Week 1 Term 2

I am really excited to get back to school although, the holidays were fantastic. On Monday we were straight back to work we started working on editing our piece of writing that we wrote at the end of last term. My writing is alright considering that we haven't properly edited it yet. Another exciting thing that happened on Monday was Mrs Crowe told us that we have science fair coming up this term in week nine, so last night I gave it some thought and I came up with a few ideas. On Tuesday we had tech art (science)  the task we had to complete was changing green salt water to fresh drinkable water we were given two flasks, one tube, two hot mits, two buns/corks, a hot plate and 100 mils of water we completed the task by putting the two bungs into the flasks then we put one flask onto the hot plate and the other onto the bench the flask on the hot plate was then filled with the water next we connected the two tubes between flasks and left the water to boil. The water was able to be transferred from one flask to the other because water boils at a lower temperature than salt does therefor turning the water into a steam and going down the tube to the other flask. Because the other flask was off the heat the steam turned back into water. I didn't actually taste it but apparently it tasted like water just a bit rubbery. Somewhere in the whole process me and my partner managed to melt our tube, but luckily for us our teacher is really nice and she said that it was fine and that she would just chop it shorter. At the end of the session the science teacher talked about science fair, and I also asked her some questions about topics and at this point in time I am thinking that I am going to have the question how does the colour of water affect the evaporation speed caused by the sun's heat. On  Tuesday a man named Mike King came and spoke to us at the start of his speech he told us about how he used to be a stand up comedian and he also told us some jokes that were hilarious then he started to talk about depression and he pretty much told us his life story it was really interesting, and some of the time funny like when he made his jokes.I left school after morning tea but in the time that I was there we did maths I have finished all of the work that I can do until tomorrow which is good. We also have lots of exciting things to look forward to this week such as tomorrow we have extension art, and on Friday we have Belmont trials. Belmont is a school in Auckland that we do a sport exchange with half of the teams stay at our school and they come down and the other half goes up and it rotates each year. Last year in went to their school as a exchange student to play netball, but this year netball is staying down, so I am trialing for mixed volleyball because it is traveling up there. So I am really looking forward to the rest of the week. but luckily for us our teacher is really nice and she said that it was fine and that she would just chop it shorter.

Week 10 Term 1

This week has been great. Yesterday I went to leadership day which is where some of the leaders in a few schools all go, and they go to do a bunch of activity's that help to grow their leadership skills. While we were there, a lady that had raced in cycling at the Olympic Games talked to us. She talked about trust and perseverance she said that while they race they are usually about one centimeter from each others wheel, and that if anyone was going to crash it would consequence the whole team. During the day we did lots of activity's that taught us lots of new skills such as respect, perseverance, team work and a range of other skills. We played lots of games during the day, and one of them was handball I was really excited when I found out because when we hosted a Japanese student, and she played it in Japan I think that it was her favorite sport. Today we had tech arts and Maori. In tech arts we made this weird looking bouncy stuff we didn't really learn much, but it was so fun. During Maori we learnt how to say the names of shapes in Maori, and in French we learnt how to ask somebody if they had any pets at their. We also learnt how to reply. Some of the names of the animals were
un mouton = sheep
une vache = cow
un lapin = rabbit
un cochon = pig
poisson rouge = gold fish

For the word gold fish I couldn't remember if it was masculine or feminine. If a word is masculine it has the word un in front of it or if it's feminine it has the word une in front of it. Also in France they say red fish instead of gold fish which would make sense as the fish is really red rather than gold. In class we have been learning about the brain we made a pour point about the left brain right brain, and what their roll is. If you want to find if you are left brained or right brained you just go onto google and search up left brain right brain then click on the link that says Right brained? Left brained take the test! Some of the facts the I have learnt about the brain is that it takes 80 milliseconds for information to travel from your eyes to your brain, and by the time your brain has processed the information the moment would have already passed. I also learnt that if you stretched out all of your axons they could wrap around the Earth's equator more than four times, and when you sleep it can actually make you smarter and healthier. While you sleep, your body paralyses your arms and legs so that when you dream you don't act out any of the thing that you are dreaming about although I am not to sure why people sleep walk. Also when you sleep your brain works really hard recapping the day working out problems that you couldn't work out or that had went to your subconsciousness during the day. The brain is made up of 90% water 12% fat and eight% of something else that I forgot. I also learnt that the human brain is smarter than any animal, and that scientists think that a crow could be one of the smartest birds because of the way that they act for example some of the crows drop nuts on the road so that passing cars could crush the shell for them, and when another crow dies they all gather around calling out and making noises for a while before flying off. We also learnt that a leach has 34 segments that make up it's body (I think), and there is a brain for each segment. We also learnt that a brain does not feel any pain, and some times when doctors do surgery they keep the patience awake so they can tell the doctor how they are feeling and what they are thinking. So this week we have learnt a lot, and I am really excited for next week because we are going to camp for a few days, but then I am also hesitant because we are doing P.C. ( pubertal change) that's when the teacher talks about puberty. Overall I think that I have had a great week, and I am excited for another great one.

Week 8 and 9 Term 1

This week has been great. In tech arts we have moved on from hard materials to science so far all we have done is draw diagrams of things, but I know that it will start to become more fun when we start doing some experiments. Also on Tuesday we had WIMS (Waikato Intermediate middle schools) touch competition. Both of our teams did really well the girls team (my team) got third overall, and the boys team got first overall. During the tournament we lost three games, won two games and drew one game, so we were happy with that, and I think that the boys won all of their games during the day. On Thursday we turned up for extension art, but our teacher didn't turn up.

Week Nine

This week has also been great we had tech arts again, but in science this week we did a bit more exciting things than we did last week. When we first arrived our teacher had been hatching little baby chickens. When we got there we were allowed to hold them they were two days old and really cute.
I also had extension art on Thursday morning, and unlike last week our teacher did turn up. I have almost started my painting on my canvas I think that I will be up to that next week. On Thursday afternoon we had summer games. That is when all of the four houses (Waikato, Puniu, Mangapiko
and Wapia) compete in a series of summer games such as padded tennis, table tennis, touch, minor games nonstop cricket and softball. We haven't found out the results for it yet, but I hope my house (Puniu) wins. Thursday was a really busy day we also had the first disco for 2016 on Thursday night it went for two hours, and it was really fun I had a great time. I am really excited because near the end of week eleven we are going on camp with room seven, and we will arrive back at school on the last day left of the term. Another reason that I am excited is that there is only two weeks lest of term one before it is the holidays.

Week 7 Term 1

This week has been really great. As I was one of the luck students who has hosted a Japanese student, I have found out that they are really kind, and they are always looking to help out while still having fun. While my student Mei has been staying with us she has been very polite, and willing to try anything new such as the food, the sports, activities and the games. She has also taught us how to make and cook Japanese food, how to play Japanese games and how to count in Japanese. Mei is really good at speaking and understanding English, so we haven’t had any difficulties communicating with her. While Mei has been staying with us she has been to lots of places that are different to places in Japan, and she has also experienced lots of thing she can’t experience in Japan. The thing she has most enjoyed in New Zealand was going to Taupo. We did lots of thing over that weekend including parasailing and swimming in the lake. She did everything that we did without complaint, so she has made hosting her really easy, and I’m sure that all of the other host families have found out the same things with their Japanese student.I think that it will be sad to say goodbye, so I will try to make the most of the time I have let with her.

We have also done lots of other fun thing this week. On Tuesday we had WIMS (Waikato Intermediate Middle Schools) volleyball. It was really fun, and overall we came sixth, and the boys came first their team was really good. There was also some more exciting things this week I made it into WIMS touch and the literacy quiz. That means that so far I will have five badges WIMS touch, volleyball, swimming, the literacy quiz and the tough guy and gal challenge. As this week has been so successful I am excited to see what next week brings!

Week 6 Term 1

This week has been great. On Tuesday we had boating, and for that we had to go to the school pool and learn about water safety. We learnt lots of important things, and the water safety teachers even manged to make it fun for us. The most exciting thing this week has been the arrival of the Japanese exchange students. They will be staying with us for 12 days, and we are hosting a girl named Mei. She is 15 years old, and she is sort of shy, but I think that after a while she will start to talk more. Her English is really good, and she has already taught us lots of new card games, and I can now use chopsticks thanks to her. I am really excited for another great week, and I am excited to see what else she has to teach us.

Week 5 Term 1

This week has been great. On Monday we had WIMS (Waikato Intermediate Middle School) Swimming. I raced in three races 50 meters freestyle, 50 meters backstroke and the championship relay I can't really remember, but I think that our relay got 3rd or 4th which is good. There was a lot of swimming this week because that Friday was our school swimming. We are still waiting for the results to see which house won the last time a teacher called out the points Waipa was beating us (Puniu) by three points, but they hadn't added on our points from the house relays and we won three of them and came second in our fourt. Hopefully we cane win because we are sitting last now in the overall points. I can't wait for next week, so I can see if we won or what our place is.

Week 4 Term 1

This week has been great. We have done tech arts, and I have nearly completed my speaker box I have wired my speakers, and I am up to my second layer of paint. At the start of this week we have had our inter house swimming heats to see who will race on the actual school swimming day. The heats also determine who will go to WIMS (Waikato Intermediate Middle Schools) swimming. I made the team and so did some of my friends which is good for me and them. The WIMS swimming is held on Monday, and on the Friday of the same week is school swimming, so by the time that is all done I am going to be pretty tired of swimming. Anyway I am really happy because I got deputy house captain for Puniu, and our first assembly is coming up soon. Today was our second session of extension art, and it went really well we did a practice painting of a landscape, and I don't think mine looked that bad. Anyway I am really looking forward to another fantastic week.

Week 3 Term 1

This week has been great. In tech we are making speakers, but I have missed a couple of session so I was behind when we first started, but now I have caught up lots and I am pretty much up to the same thing as anybody else. I have also made it into extension art which is like extra session of art that mostly consists of painting. I few years ago my cousin was in extension art as well and the art work she brought home was amazing. Earlier this week me and my friend were selected to attend a leadership day today, and so far I have been really excited for it. I think that it will help me to be a good leader seeing as I am going for house captain and my friend is going for class counselor, but the only down side to this is that my first session of extension art is today, and they are announcing house captains today so I hope that I will be back in time for that.

Week 2 Term 1

Having the long weekend has been great, but now we are back to school. For tech arts we are making little plastic phone or iPod holders that can sit on top of the speakers that we will end up making later on through our hard materials session. This week we also had our immunization talk the year seven immunization is for testiness, and the year eight girls immunization (my immunization) is for protection from HPV. We have to get three injections over a cores of a certain amount of days. I am not to sure how many days there has to be in between each of the three injections, but I do know that I am not looking forward to it because I absolutely hate needles and ever body that I have asked has said that it hurts lots. One girl even said when they inject the fluid into your body you can feel it running down your arm, so that wasn't were helpful.

Week 1 Term 1

Today is our first session of tech arts, and we are are starting off with hard materials. I am really excited because last year hard materials was really fun, so I can't wait to see what we are going to make this year. The thing that I am not so excited for is our basic facts test because I am still in holiday mode and I have forgotten most of my basic facts. So far the week has been good all of the new year sevens seem nice enough. A couple of days ago our teacher took us out for sports we played 4 new games, but I forgot what they were called. I can't wait to see what next week brings.
